Highways officers at Northamptonshire County Council were left red-faced after wrongly informing Daventry Town Council they would be scrapping the clearway on key arterial roads in the town-prompting angry responses from councillors.

A letter, dated March 19 to the council reads: “Having fully considered all objections received and in accordance to due process employed by the County Council, a decision has now been made to revoke the existing 24 hour clearway between London Road/Western Avenue/ Braunston Road, Daventry.” It goes on:“I am sure you will welcome this outcome”. However on Tuesday after town council clerk Deborah Jewell queried the decision she received an email saying there had been an error and the clearway would remain in force.
