FOR the fifth year a Daventry pub has opened its doors to invite elderly people in for a free festive party.
The Queen of Hearts Pub, in Wimborne Place on Ashby Fields, provided meals for people on Wednesday and Thursday last week.
The tradition was started by former landlord Mark Pemberton, and has been continued by the current managers Fran Unwin and Mark Allfrey, who took over running the pub in 2011.
In a series of lunchtime meals the pub welcomed around 135 guests.
Ms Unwin said: “It went really well and was a lot of fun.
“We gave people a choice of day when to come along until one of them got fully booked!
“We’re hoping to put on another lunch this week if we can find some more care homes who wish to get involved with it.
“We’re looking forward to next year when hopefully it will be bigger and better.”
Guests for the meals are invited along from the various care homes and sheltered accommodation locally.
Money to pay for the parties is raised by the pub and its regulars throughout the year with various events and activities.
