Bowlers in Daventry competed for the Tesco Shield on Thursday last week (August 20).

The tournament took place at Daventry Indoor Bowls Club, off Browns Road.

Eight teams of three, drawn at random from the Daventry Eagles Indoor Bowls Club’s members, played against each other through the afternoon.

At the end of the day the team made up of Jim Milburn, Audrey Russell and Clive Younger, had the most points and took the trophy.

The shield was presented by Michele Hawes, community champion at Tesco in Daventry.

The shield was sponsored by Tesco soon after it opened its New Street store in the town, and has been competed for annually since 2001.

The club is holding a series of open days to give people the chance to go along and try the sport for themselves.

The first is on Bank Holiday Monday, August 31, from 11am to 4pm and is part of a Daventry-wide day of sports clubs giving people the chance to try their sports, as well as being a fun day raising money for DACT.

Further open events will be held on Friday September 18 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm; Saturday September 19 from 9.30am to 4.30pm; Friday September 25 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm; and Saturday September 26 from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
