Champion rider Danny Butler will bring his Extreme Mountain Bike Show to Daventry Country Park as part of a free event to celebrate cycling.

The show, run by the five times British and European Trials mountain bike champion, will be among the attractions at the popular annual Cyclefest, which returns to the park on Saturday September 5.

The fourth annual event has been organised by Daventry District Council with support from a range of partners and will take place from 11am to 3pm.

As well as the mountain bike show, it will see the return of the pedal-powered smoothie makers, Scalextric game and sound system.

There will be a selection of weird, wonderful and retro bicycles to try out as well as balance and circus skills workshops from The Joker Entertainment.

There will be information about guided Sky Ride and Breeze Rides taking place in the local area as well as stands by Daventry Cycling Club and Northamptonshire Highways, plus a workshop run by Daventry-based Leisure Lakes Bikes.

Cycle Northants will run their Swing Bike Challenge giving people the chance to win bike-related goodies. There will also be refreshments from The Jolly Pedlar, a bouncy castle, face-painting and a prize draw offering the chance to win a £50 Leisure Lakes Bikes voucher and accessory pack.

Councillor Alan Hills, community, culture and leisure portfolio holder at Daventry District Council, said: “Cyclefest aims to encourage people of all ages and abilities to have a go at cycling and see the benefits it has to offer. Whether that’s riding along with the kids to school, cycling to work or getting exercise in the weekend by exploring the countryside and local parks.

“There will be lots of free activities for the whole family to enjoy as well as information about guided rides in the local area and prizes to be won, so I would encourage people to go along and see for themselves the benefits that cycling has to offer.”
