A couple who have lived a Northamptonshire village all their married life have celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary.
Leslie, aged 86 and Christine Jones, aged 80, got married in Pattishall church on September 10, 1955 and have lived in Byfield ever since.
The couple’s early courtship in the 1950s was interrupted when Mrs Jones contracted TB and had to have a major operation to save her life.
Mrs Jones spent 14 months away from her husband in Rushden as she recuperated after her operation.
Mr and Mrs Jones have two daughters, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren
The pair are both long-standing members of the Royal British Legion and helped deliver ‘meals on wheels’ for many years.
Mrs Jones said: “It is all about give and take. It has not always been smooth and no marriages are. We have always got round our little problems.”
