STAFF at Danetre School were counting on an interesting learning experience as a result of a special maths challenge.
The day was organised to bring together the brightest pupils from several schools around the Daventry district.
It saw youngsters given the chance to work in teams to design a Formula 1 car on a computer, even down to calculating the correct amount of fuel needed.
The finished designs were then raced against each other around a computer-simulated track at the end of the day on Friday.
Danetre School’s head of Maths Nick Haddon said: “We had kids coming from Newnham, Badby, Barby and Braunston among many others.
“The day was designed to help the children who come here get used to being at a new school as a lot of the children were in Year Six and might be coming here next year.
“The struggle with maths is challenging those children who are very good at the subject. Having days like this is a challenge for the brighter students.”
