Daventry District Council (DDC) has moved to secure a derelict building in Daventry after a recent incident.
A large group of young people were both inside and outside the former Danetre Garage site in Warwick Street on Wednesday May 15 at around 6.45pm. The group started a fire inside the building and while it was safely managed, both Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service warned the situation could have had dire consequences.
DDC, who owns the building, has started putting fencing around the site on this afternoon (Wednesday) in a bid to prevent a repeat of the same situation.
The deputy chief executive of DDC Simon Bovey said: “Council officers went out to board up windows and doors damaged in the incident as soon as we were informed of it.
“We are currently fencing off the site to further secure it and would re-iterate the safety messages issued by our partners in Northamptonshire Police and Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service: this site is not a play area.”
