Cash grants for groups available

GRANT funding worth thousands of pounds has been made available to community groups in Daventry.

Northamptonshire county councillor Chris Long has been given the money as part of the county councillor empowerment fund for the new year.

Cllr Long, who represents the Daventry West area on the county council, said: “When I was elected as a county councillor and informed that I had money to allocate in my division that I decided that I wanted to try and assist all age groups in my area.

“I have been able to achieve my objective. Everyone from tots to future generations have benefitted.”

In 2010/2011, he gave a total of £19,795 across a wide range of groups. DACT were given £5,000 for a new community coach and £3,000 each to the Phoenix Youth Centre and Time2Talk which went towards an indoor skate park and to the charity’s running costs.
