Cash boost for volunteer groups across district

COMMUNITY groups in the Daventry area have been awarded a total of £7,000 from the district council’s second homes fund.

The money has been generated after an agreement was reached to reduce council tax discount on second homes from 50 per cent to 10 per cent across the county.

That has led to an additional grant pot of £15,000 for the year which will be allocated to community projects.

Amongst the beneficiaries are Daventry Volunteer Centre, which has been awarded £1,000 to buy IT equipment and DACT (Daventry Area Community Transport), which has received £987 to pay for minibus training for drivers.

Danetre Rotary Club has been given £500 for its Christmas sleigh collections, Naseby Wanderers Football Club has been awarded £1,430 to pay for storage and sports equipment and Preston Capes Village Hall has been handed £2,500 to pay for hall repairs.
