A VILLAGE sports club has received a £50,000 grant from Sport England.
Crick Athletic FC needs a total of £200,000 to build a new senior football pitch, two junior pitches, a car park and drainage to the cricket pitch.
And the cash injection, which has come from the Protecting Playing Fields Olympic Legacy Fund, has enabled the club to take its first step.
Ian Gidley, from Crick Athletic FC, said: “We are delighted to have been awarded this grant from Sport England, which will enable us to develop the first phase of decent sport facilities for our village.
“Crick has seen significant growth in recent years without any purpose-built sport pitches.
“To have professionally-constructed level pitches that drain well will be fantastic.”
Sport England chairman Richard Lewis added that the playing field would be a lasting sporting legacy beyond the 2012 games.”
