STAFF at The Peacock pub in Long Buckby spent their summer fundraising for the Oncology Unit at Northampton General Hospital.

Pub owner David Streatfield, who recently underwent his last session of chemotherapy, led the efforts after realising the hospital was in need of new equipment and funds.

Staff from the pub presented the unit with a cheque for £4,560 last month.

Mr Streatfield said: “It started out that we just wanted to raise £500 with a raffle or something but it snowballed and everybody at the pub, including customers, wanted to get involved.

“When you have had cancer and been to the hospital you can see how desperately funding is needed so, instead of putting money into a big pot like Macmillan I decided I wanted to give it directly to the hospital.”

The Peacock hosted a ‘cut or not to cut’ evening with a hair dresser cutting live in the pub, a coffee morning and an auction to name a few activities. Mr Streatfield said after this year’s success he will be fundraising again next year.
