Youngsters’ jobs and education march set to come through town

A GROUP of young people marching across England in a crusade for jobs will arrive in Daventry on Wednesday, October 26.

The youngsters are marching from Jarrow, on Tyneside, to London to recreate the 1936 Jarrow Crusade against unemployment and poverty.

They are expected to hold a rally on Daventry High Street when they arrive in town at around 2.30pm.

The day will end with a public meeting at the Dun Cow in Brook Street from 7.30pm whose landlord Dennis Caygill’s grandfather was on the original Jarrow march 75 years ago.

The marchers aim to make Parliament take more action to create and protect youth employment – now approaching a million people according to recent figures – and to provide better educational opportunities.
