Traders leaving Daventry town centre as costs bite
MORE businesses are leaving Daventry as traders continue to battle with tough economic conditions.
Elliots Butchers and Delicatessen on the High Street has announced it will be leaving town at the end of February, and Ethos Recruitment on New Street has closed its doors this week.
In recent months other traders have also left town, including Pink and Blue baby shop on the High Street and Hair And The Rest on the Abbey Retail Park.
The Tip Shop on the High Street has also closed down, and the Daventry Express understands a charity shop will soon be moving into that unit.
Traders in the town have said high rent and business rates, which are set by Central Government, are making life difficult.
Business leaders say the increasing number of charity shops, which don’t have to pay the same level of rates, may also be having an affect.
