HOUSING association tenants are boosting their skills on a pilot training course in the district.
Run by Daventry and District Housing (DDH) in partnership with Groundwork Northamptonshire, the life skills course was designed to help DDH tenants gain the skills required to live independently in their own home.
Sessions included home maintenance and DIY as well as household budgeting.
The course also teaches first aid as well as cooking, CV writing and advice on looking for jobs.
Tenant Richard Wood, from the Southbrook estate in Daventry, said: “It was a really interesting course.
“I especially enjoyed the DIY and learning to wallpaper was really handy.
“The first aid module is really helpful too as it’s a transferrable skill that I will be able to use in the future.
“It’s something that would be really useful for younger tenants who might be setting up in their own home for the first time.”
On completing the course all the students are presented with certificates and a home starter tool kit.
