MP for Daventry Chris Heaton-Harris will be hosting a networking event to mark Small Business Saturday on December 6.
The event, which is sponsored by Barclays, will take place at the iCon Centre from 10am to noon.
Local businesses can receive advice and support as well as making some valuable contacts in the Daventry area.
Mr Heaton-Harris currently runs monthly events for local businesses and said networking was becoming and ever more important for small businesses. Mr Heaton-Harris said: “I used to run my own small business so I know how lonely it can be.
“Small businesses play a hugely important role in the economy. If the small businesses do well then the economy performs well.
“It is really easy to set up a businesses in the UK and now the economic conditions are right for people to make the leap and do something special for themselves.”
But Mr Heaton-Harris said small businesses may have missed a trick in not following on the example of businesses in China and the USA, which regularly hold networking events on a massive scale.
He said: “In my business career networking was always really important, it is something that can be overlooked.
“But with social media, things are changing.
“It is so good when you see businesses talk to each other. This can often lead to business passing on customers or collaborating in some way.
“Last year I held a similar networking event at the iCon and at least 60 small businesses attended; I am hoping we will get the same number or more this year.”
Refreshments will be provided and experts from Barclays will be on hand to provide information and advice.
