A day celebrating Latvian culture and the contribution Latvians have made to Britain will be held in Daventry on Saturday.

The event is being organised by the Latvian newspaper the Anglo-Baltic News (ABN) and takes place at Daventry’s iCon Centre.

During the day, from 2pm to 6pm, will be an exhibition and fair focusing on the culture of the Baltic state which is open for anyone to attend.

The event will be hosted by Datsa Gaile, who graduated from Northampton Business School at the University of Northampton in 2011 with a BA in business management.

Also attending the awards ceremony will be the Ambassador of Latvia to the UK, Eduards Stiprais.

Nine awards will be presented during the evening, in categories including ‘Best Business Idea’ and ‘Best Entrepreneur’, interspersed with musical entertainment from various Latvian groups ranging from folk music to DJs.

The top award of the night will be the Most Enterprising Latvian in Great Britain prize.

The recipient will also get a video message from the Latvian Prime Minister and Economy Minister.

This is the third time the Most Enterprising Latvian in Great Britain Awards have taken place.

Ms Gaile said: “The Awards are a major event in the Latvian/ABN calendar, and they aim to both motivate and support people from Latvia who are now living in the UK, and to build relationships with the local community.

“The awards take place at the University-owned iCon centre in the evening of March 16, following an afternoon exhibition which the people of Northamptonshire are very welcome to attend to find out more about Latvian culture,” she added.

Tickets for the exhibition and fair are £3, the awards and exhibition £10, the after party in Northampton £15, and an all -inclusive ticket will cost £20.
