Hoping to retain crime scheme

THE manager of the Daventry business partnership said she was looking at ways to retain a crime scheme set up by the business improvement district (BID).

Sally Halson said, despite being disappointed, the partnership respected the decision of town centre and commercial estate businesses to vote against the renewing and establishment of a BID.

The BIDs aimed to improve the trading environment for businesses and customers by providing services through a 2.6 per cent levy on top of existing business rates.

Neither BIDs were successful in the ballot.

Miss Halson said: “I would like to thank all those that took the time to vote in the two BID ballots.

“While disappointed with the outcome, the partnership fully respects the views and wishes of the business community. Ultimately BIDs can only exist when businesses want them.

“The Town Centre BID and associated services it provides will finish at the end of March 2013, although we will be looking at ways of sustaining the business crime scheme if at all possible.”

She wished businesses the best of luck and said she could be contacted on 01327 828391.
