Daventry District Council (DDC) has announced plans to demolish the former Danetre Vauxhall Garage with work to begin on October 13.
The garage on Warwick Street was more recently home to the Vineyard Community Church, but has remained empty for some time.
It is to be demolished along with the former Band Hall on the Hollows playing fields, both of which have been fenced off after being targeted by vandals in recent months.
The work, scheduled to start on Monday and run for about five weeks, is part of preparations for a new scheme to be built by the council’s development partner, Henry Boot Developments Limited.
The demolition of the former garage and band hall will help pave the way for the development of Daventry Town Centre Vision Site 5, which will include a supermarket and a filling station.
Councillor Chris Over, Daventry District Council’s economic, regeneration and employment portfolio holder, said: “These is a key development site in the vision to regenerate Daventry town centre.
“It will enhance the town’s retail and leisure offer and providing a real boost for existing businesses by helping to attract further investment.”
