A self-employed builder has cemented his position in the regional finals of Britain’s Top Tradesman awards.

Neil Cook, 42, saw off stiff competition in the Midlands to become one of five local tradesmen and women in with a chance to make it through to the grand final to be held at Wembley.

The winner will be in with a chance to receive a brand new Toyota truck worth £28,000 to help them with their business. Britain’s top Tradesman competition, now in its fifth year, is organised by Screwfix, a nationwide supplier of power tools and hardware.

Neil, a self-employed builder based at Staverton thinks his focus on constructing sustainable projects, helping educate homeowners on the benefits of eco products and delivering the best quality finish to projects will help him stand out from the crowd and impress the judges.

Neil said: “I am committed to encouraging sustainable construction.

“Homeowners can reap many benefits by specifying that eco products are used in the construction projects on their home, so I’m always keen to help share ideas and expertise in this area. When I saw the competition online, I thought I’d give it a go as it would be great to be recognised for what I do every day, so I’m really pleased to be a regional finalist!”

Screwfix marketing director John Mewett said: “Neil has made it through to the regional finals because he focuses on helping his customers understand the benefits of sustainable construction and works on projects designed to be fit for the future.

“All of our regional finalists are chosen because they been able to demonstrate dedication to their profession and a commitment to delivering great customer service, always willing to go the ‘extra mile’ to get the job done.

“This year’s grand final will be held at Wembley and with only one person from each regional heat able to secure a place it is bound to be an exciting and close competition.

“I would like to wish Neil the best of luck in his heat.”

The East Midlands regional final takes place on Saturday in Loughborough.
