A PARISH council chairman has stood down having been in charge for 23 years.
Janet McCarthy, who has been a member of Braunston Parish Council for 35 years, is retiring from the chairman’s role and will be replaced by Alan Mawer.
She said: “There comes a time to retire and move on to other projects and now is the right time when there is new blood to ensure there is progress.
“I have no regrets and look forward to seeing what the village does in the future. I think Alan will be a very capable chairman.
“It has been a wonderful privilege to represent Braunston. It’s a wonderful village with wonderful people.”
She said the highlight of her time was acquiring the Jetty Fields as a leisure.
She stood down at the village’s annual parish meeting held on Monday where she was presented with a gift and flowers from the parish.
