CHURCH bells across the Daventry rang out this morning (Friday) to herald the opening of the Olympic Games.
Teams were at 23 church bell towers in the district, including Daventry’s Holy Cross, to ring the bells for three minutes starting at 8.12am.
They were part of the national All The Bells which encouraged anyone and everyone to ring any bell they had to welcome the Olympic Games.
Geoff Pullin from the Peterborough Diocese Guild of Bellringers said: “At the start it was described as a ‘delightfully barmy idea’ but as it’s got more publicity it’s also got more support.
“It’s very interesting to be involved in this, which is a naional event.”
