Arsonists blamed for fires in town

FIREFIGHTERS had a busy night in the town centre on Tuesday night as they were called to two blazes.

Two crews from Daventry were called out to Foundry Walk where a quantity of refuse had been set on fire. They were called out at 9.40pm.

Just 20 minutes after this incident, another crew from Daventry was also called out to deal with a bin fire which took place in Bowen Square.

In addition to these two blazes, firefighters were called out to Daventry Road in Barby where a large quantity of sawdust was set alight.

A spokesman for the Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service said the cause of all three fires was deliberate ignition.

There has been no indication from police whether the three fires started in the Daventry district are linked to each other.

There is also no suggestion from the police that these incidents are linked to the disorder which has occurred across many of the major cities in the UK over the past week.

Witnesses or anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call police on 03000 111 222 or alternatively phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
