The formal planning application to build the Flore/Weedon bypass is set to be backed by members of Daventry District Council’s planning committee on Wednesday next week.
The committee will discuss a report examining the application which recommends supporting the application.
However, planning officers have raised two points they wish to see more details on.
First they say they would like more details on materials and finishes, as well as planting and screening, to judge short and long term harm.
They also ask the councillors to back a request for greater detail on the potential impact of the Grand Union Canal Conservation Area. The new bypass would cross the canal on a bridge that would also carry it over the rail line, with the road running on embankments to either side.
Officers said they would like details on: “Noise attenuation and to how the associated bunding, landscaping, and acoustic detailing will affect views of, from or along the canal, and the visual impact of vehicles using the elevated bridge section.”
The new A45 bypass is planned to leave the current route just to the west of Weedon, and then head north, passing over the railway and canal, before joining the A5 at a new roundabout. It will then pass to the north of Flore and rejoin the current A45 at a roundabout shortly before junction 16 of the M1.
DDC’s planning committee is only a consultee for the bypass as large road schemes like this are decided on by Northamptonshire County Council.
