A CARE home in Daventry stepped back to the 1940s on Saturday.

Residents, visitors and staff braved the bad weather and joined in the fun at the Wheatsheaf Court, in Sheaf Street, 1940s street party.

Staff and residents dressed in period clothing, with some costumes donated by the Danetre Party Shop.

A 1940s sing along concert and a display by members of the 497 (Daventry) Air Training Corps were just part of the entertainment laid on for the event, held in the home’s courtyard.

The party menu included such delights as ‘Spam fritters and instant mashed potato’.

Lawrence Wheeler former owner of the Wheatsheaf also his wife Jenny joined the party for the afternoon.

Manager Jessie Mammen said: “I just wanted to thank all the staff, the 497 ATC and local business for their help in making it such a wonderful day for the residents.”
