GENEROUS people from across the Daventry district have helped raised £10,000 in an annual Christmas collection.
Organisers have deemed the 44th Christmas Sleigh Collection a great success, despite raising around £1,000 less than year.
Clive Brown, fundraising chairman of Danetre Rotary Club who organises the annual event, said: “We’re a bit down on last yea
r but considering the weather we’ve had and the way things are at the moment, £10,000 is very good.
“It’s great we can raise that sort of money in two weeks and it will all go to something meaningful. We’re very happy, it’s been wonderful.”
The two-week Christmas Sleigh Collection, organised by Danetre Rotary Club with support from the Rotary Club of Daventry, Advice Daventry and others clubs and organisations in the district, saw Santa and hundreds of helpers visiting homes across Daventry and the surrounding villages last month.
The £10,000 raised will now be split between a number of local charities and good causes throughout the year.
Mr Brown said: “Thanks to all the people of the Daventry district for their support and we’ll be back next year.”
Danetre Rotary Club would also like to thank everyone that took part, as well as Robert Tate for the loan of a trailer, Geo Browns Implements Ltd who supplied a tractor and Tim and Nick Hill from Maple Leaf Garage for the trailer and Discovery 4x4.
