NEARLY three quarters of visitors to a public exhibitions for an eight-turbine wind farm near Yelvertoft were in favour of the project, according to the developer.
Your Energy organised public events in Crick, Yelvertoft and Lilbourne at the start of September to show its final plans for the wind farm, along with details of a £1.2 million community benefit fund.
As visitors left they were encouraged to leav
e comments and of those that expressed a definite view, 73 per cent said they supported Your Energy’s proposals.
Development manager at the company Charlotte Healey said: “We are committed to consulting the community so are delighted that not only was there a healthy turnout but that such a high proportion of visitors want to see a wind farm between Yelvertoft and the M1.
“We were very happy to answer questions people had and it is always gratifying to discover that so many residents are in favour of generating electricity from the wind and combating climate change locally.
“Visitors also appreciated that we had listened to their concerns about the wind farm’s visual impact and reduced the number of turbines from 12 to eight as well as moving all remaining turbines at least 200 metres to the north of the bridleway on the site.”
The company has said it expects to put in a planning application in the autumn.

n THE Lilbourne Against Wind Farms Action Group claims its opposition should not be dismissed as a ‘not in my backyard’ response.
A scheme proposed by Cetis for the Lilbourne Wind Farm, consisting of 12 turbines to the east of the M1 near the village, has raised concerns with the group.
The group feels the wind farm would cause a distraction on a dangerous stretch of motorway and it is worried about the close proximity to the village, the impact on wildlife, noise and health.
A spokesman for the group said: “This scheme should be abandoned by the developer and rejected by Daventry District Council.
“This isn’t a ‘not in my backyard’, more a case of ‘not in our front room’ and not at our dangerous junction.”
