SHOP owners in Daventry say they have had a stable retail year despite the credit crunch.
But the same traders have warned the next three months could be tricky for some businesses.
Jenny Linnell, owner of Essential Sports in Foundry Court, said: “We have been doing okay. Up until now we have not had any problems with the credit crunc
h, but the next three months could be a difficult time for traders.”
Dawn Branigan, owner of First Light Photographic in High Street, said: “We have been doing all right because we have expanded into other areas. We will see what happens in the future.”
This view was shared by many traders with one happy to report a boost in sales.
Kim Moore, owner of Prezzence in Bishop’s Court, said: “We are doing better than last year and trading picked up over Christmas time.”
Nicola Kenny, deputy manager of Violets Florists in St Johns Square, said: “We have only been here eight months but we are slightly down on where we expected to be. I think the credit crunch has affected us but we have Valentine’s Day coming up and hopefully things will get better soon.”
One trader though has said he has a difficult time and is expecting things to get worse.
Peter Harper, owner of Harper’s in Sheaf Street, said: “It has been very, very tough for us. It will get a lot worse for us this year and it will only be 2010 before it gets better.”
