PLANS that would see thousands of new homes and jobs come to Daventry have been revealed this week.
And you could have the chance to have your say on the planning document by the West Northamptonshire Joint Planning Unit (JPU) if it is given the thumbs up next week.
Although Daventry has been earmarked for expansion by the Government for a number of years, this new strategic plan setting out the way Daventry and the surrounding villages will expand over the next generation details potential sites around the town for around 7,050 homes – an increase on the 6,000-odd houses previously expected.
One of these sites is a new area for 1,000 homes across the A361 Ashby Road from Middlemore.
The increase in the number of homes is down to an extension of the growth period from 2021 to 2026.
The document also includes the option for a major new employment area at junction 16 of the M1, along with jobs at businesses on the bigger housing estates.
The JPU is tasked with creating a combined strategic plan for the growth and development of the Daventry district, south Northamptonshire district and Northampton town.
Chris Millar, leader of Daventry District Council and vice-chairman of the JPU board said: “For Daventry, most of the sites identified have been seen before. The one that is different is on the A361, and also the Daventry south east site, which runs along the A45 rather than up and around the back of Borough Hill.
“The core strategy also says that sites in the town can take some of the houses needed for Daventry.
“That is the WaterSpace site [the Eastern Way playing fields] and college site on the Grange, which can take 250 and 300 homes respectively.
“This document isn’t about providing houses – it details all the infrastructure that will need to be developed for each of the sites and provides an evidence base for that.
“This document isn’t set in stone as yet and the public can have a say on it.
