A NURSERY in Daventry is planning to build a new home in the town in a bid to stop it being closed down.

Dolphin Day Nursery, currently based at the Phoenix Centre in Ashby Road, has applied to Daventry District Council (DDC) for a new building on green space opposite Falconer's Hill Infant School, also in Ashby Road.

The application, which was sub
mitted last month, says the nursery will have to leave its current home by November 1 because of a change of format of the Phoenix Centre rooms.

The design statement included in the application said: "Dolphin Day Nursery have been in residence at the Phoenix Centre for some years and as such provide a valuable resource to the local community.

If they were to lose their position in Ashby Road, not only would employment be lost but also this long established community service."

If the plans are given the go-ahead the nursery will have three classroom areas and cater for children up to the age of eight. The larger classroom will sub-divide to provide smaller spaces for different age groups for after school clubs.

Coleen Wilkins, headteacher of Falconer's Hill Infant School, said: "We welcome this application because there is not a nursery on site and we are hopeful it will go ahead."

The application will be determined in the near future.
