A VILLAGE Boxing Day tradition raised £275 for injured service personnel.
The Eydon Mummers performed the village’s mummers play at The Royal Oak and collected money for Help For Heroes.
Kevin Lodge, one of the mummers, said: “Mumming goes back a long time. At one time every village had its own play.
“Mummers plays are very strange because they are so old and their origins are not known. They usually have a fight in them and someone gets injured or dies, and then a doctor arrives and brings them back from the dead.
“We’ve performed it every year since 1991. We print out the basic script, but we try and make it different each year, so this year Matthew who was Beelzebub played it with a French accent and threw in some puns, and there is usually a line asking if there is a doctor present, and this year the response was an automated phone message asking people to press one and so on.”
