THURSDAY APRIL 27 - DAVENTRY'S MP has toured the town to learn more about how innovative renewable energies that help the environment are being used by the district council.
Tim Boswell MP toured Daventry on Friday to hear how Daventry District Council has been using wind and solar power to promote greener forms of energy production for the future.

He arrived at Daventry Country Park to talk to Country Park ranger Dew
i Morris, district councillor for the environment Richard Atterbury and environmental health officer Dave Malone about the country's first public display of a wind turbine, at the visitor centre, along with its solar panels.

Mr Boswell said: "I think this is an innovation really. This is obviously something which proves the new technology is possible. It's not ridiculous for cost either – you don't have to pay huge sums to have one – and it's the kind of thing people could put on their own house.

"Clearly you would have to look at its reliability, and this is as good an example as there is, but it's going to make a useful contribution to energy supply.

"I've not placed my order for one yet, but I shall be thinking about it."

Mr Malone explained the turbine provided one kilowatt of power every hour and would typically pay off its £1,500 cost within five years. The solar panels, meanwhile, provide around 70 per cent of the centre's hot water and have a 25 to 30-year life.

Later Mr Boswell visited the Middlemore estate to the north of the town where solar energy is being harnessed to provide power to homes.
