THIEVES have been targetting vehicles in villages across the Daventry district this week.
There has been a spate of offences in Long Buckby, Crick and Upper Boddington, despite a police initiative clamping down on vehicle crime.

A mini crime wave took place in Frog Lane and London End in Upper Boddington between 4.30pm on Wednesday las
t week and 11.50am the following day.

Five cars were broken into and a variety of property was taken, including cash and vehicle satellite navigation systems.

Officers from the Brackley Rural South Safer Community Team, which is responsible for Upper Boddington, are now carrying out extra patrols in the area as a result.

On Monday two vehicles were broken into in Cooks Way, Long Buckby.

A rear passenger window was smashed and items taken from a car between 5.30 and 5.45am, and a CD player was stolen when thieves smashed the front passenger window of another vehicle between 9.30 and 11.20am.

A stereo was also taken from a car at The Banks in Long Buckby between 6pm on Saturday and 9.30pm on Monday after a window was smashed. And a number of flat screen televisions were also taken when a truck was broken into in Eldon Way in Crick between 6pm on Sunday and 5am the following day.

The crimes come despite Northamptonshire Police setting up Operation Guardian, which aims to protect people’s vehicles and homes.

A police spokesman said: “We take all reports of this nature seriously and Operation Guardian aims to tackle those responsible for serious acquisitive crimes, including vehicle crime, in a targeted way across the county. We would urge anyone who may have any information about vehicle crime and those responsible to contact us.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 03000 111 222 or Crime-stoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
