PROTESTERS cheered as councillors threw out plans to build an abattoir near Onley last night (Wednesday, March 10).
A 100-strong group of campaigners gathered at Rugby's Town Hall where councillors met to discuss the controversial plans.
After a long debate councillors voted against the abattoir being built, which had been planned by local businessman the Baker Brothers.
Councillors felt that the abattoir would spoil the open countryside in the area and cause problems for residents.
Speaking after the meeting animal rights campaigner Janet Cummings said: "I'm so thrilled. People power has won again."
