The smash hit and award- winning musical Wicked will be coming to Milton Keynes Theatre next week.
The show has been performed in the West End for more than decade and will be coming to the venue as part of a nationwide tour.
It will be performed from Tuesday, February 4 to Saturday, March 8.
In a brilliantly witty re-imagining of the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two sorcery students.
Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
The lyrics for the show have been written by Grammy and Oscar winner Stephen Schwartz and is directed by two-time Tony Award winner and Olivier Award nomineeJoe Mantello.
Stepping into the iconic role of the Wicked Witch of the West is actress Nikki Davis-Jones. She claims that Elphaba is nothing like the character in the film adaptation of The Wizard of Oz.
She said: “It is strange that when you look at the character in The Wizard of Oz, she is only in the film for about 18 minutes. But it is a very strong performance and one that everyone remembers as part of their childhood.
“What I really like about this show is that it is set before The Wizard of Oz and you get to see the journey the character goes on. You see why she became the Wicked Witch.
“At the start of the show, she is a good character, fresh and eager and ready for life. It is one of the reasons that I like playing the character because she does go on this journey.
“I think everyone can relate to being young and being in the kind of situation that she is in.”
It is a role she was delighted to land, having been the understudy for the role when the show was being performed at The Apollo Theatre.
Nikki added: “The tour has been going really well, the fans have been fantastic. We have been to Manchester and Dublin so far.
“Normally if you are touring, you are not in one place for a long time but with this tour we are and it is nice, we get to see the sights.”
It will also mark a return to the venue for Nikki.
She said: “I was in Never Forget, the musical based on Take That’s songs which was fantastic, it’s a venue which I really like,” said Nikki.
“One of my best friends is from Milton Keynes. It’ll be nice to catch up with her and get to do the show.”
And Wicked is a show which is not be missed according to Nikki.
She said: “It’s a fantastic show, the music is absolutely wonderful, as are the sets. It’s a show which everyone will enjoy.”
