THE West Haddon Players will be bringing a heart-warming tale based on a true story later this month.

The village drama group put on Calendar Girls, the story of which has been turned into a film released in 2003 starring Julie Walters, Helen Mirren, Celia Imrie and Penelope Wilton.

It tells the tale of Annie’s husband John dies from leukaemia, she and her best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room.

They manage to persuade fellow WI members to pose nude with them for an alternative calendar and before long the eyes of the world are upon them.

This poignant, heart warming story of love, loss and the power of friendship has become the most successful play ever to tour the UK, grossing more at the box office than the original film.

Calendar Girls has raised millions of pounds for Leukaemia Research and West Haddon’s Calendar Girls will be proudly following this tradition, donating profits from the show to the charity.

In addition, the West Haddon Players are so thrilled to be performing the show that they will be chnneling the spirit of Calendar Girls by producing their own calendar.

It will feature in the stage show and will be available to purchase for £10 and like the show, the profits made will go to Leukaemia Research.

Calendar Girls will be performed at West Haddon Village Hall from Wednesday November 21 to Saturday November 25 with the show starting at 7.30pm each night.

It is recommended to book tickets in advance by calling Miss February at the box office on 01788 510503. They cost £7 for adults and £5 for concessions.
