Review: 9 to 5: The Musical, Milton Keynes Theatre.
‘Tumble out of bed and stumble to the kitchen, pour yourself a cup of ambition’ -and then head on down to Milton Keynes Theatre for something that is anything but hard work.
9 to 5 is a musical comedy based on the hit movie of the same name and centres on three office workers who turn the tables on their sexist, egotistical boss - in dramatic fashion. Comically conspiring to take control of the company, the storyline is both outrageous and thought-provoking. It is accompanied by a Tony and Grammy-nominated score penned by Queen of Country Dolly Parton and includes 18 of her original numbers, not least the familiar hit title song.
The cast does a sterling job in adapting the story to the stage. The central trio of Jackie Clune (Violet Newstead), Amy Lennox (Doralee Rhodes) and Natalie Casey (Judy Bernley) shone out. But special mention too to one Bonnie Langford who, at 48, still managed to mesmerise the audience with her dancing prowess. Incredible.
The show runs until Saturday. Tickets are available on 0844 8717652 or visit www.atgtickets.co.uk/miltonkeynestheatre
