These are two more pictures from the collection of Ronald Bree from Weedon. They are both of London Road in Daventry.

The top photo was taken approximately at the Astbury Close junction, looking towards the town centre. The houses on the left the road are still standing. Beyond them on the left is a patch of trees – that was the site of the Daventry Workhouse, which now is Danetre Hospital.

The second photo is also looking along London Road to the town centre – this time taken between the modern mini roundabout for the hospital and the junction with The Dingle.

Visible on the right of the road are the tall cedar (Wellingtonia western redwoods) trees originally planted by Daventry solicitor Edmund Charles Burton to celebrate the lives of his seven daughters. Some of them survive to this day.

Also visible is the Wheatsheaf Inn at the very top of the hill.
