There will be a season of treats for fans of drama as the Royal & Derngate in Northampton unveils its new year season of entertainment.
Big name comedies, dramas and performers will be visiting the theatre in the early part of the new year.
One of the first acts to come to Northampton is the internationally renowned Moscow City Ballet. They celebrate their 25th anniversary with performances of three enchanting ballets, Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and a special one-off performance of the classic story Don Quixote. It runs from January 20 to 25.
Noel Coward’s classic comedy Fallen Angels, stars Jenny Seagrove and Sara Crowe, as best friends visited by a mutual lover from the past. It will be performed from February 10-15.
Coming direct from the West End to Northampton is the critically acclaimed Chariots of Fire, running from February 18-22. It has been adapted from the Oscar-winning movie and is a moving tale of two men’s rivalry and their unwavering determination to conquer the world in the face of prejudice and immovable beliefs.
Silent Witness’ William Gaminara, who plays Professor Leo Dalton stars in The Body of an American, a winner of the 2013 Pen award for drama. This documentary/drama crossed with two timezones and also stars Damian Molony, who appeared in cult drama Being Human and Ripper Street. It runs from February 27 to March 8.
A literary classic is also being adapted for the stage by the theatre’s in-house production team. Charles Dickens’ A Tale of Two Cities will be performed from February 21 to March 15.
This will be followed by a comedy which runs from April 18 to May 10. George Feydeau’s Every Last Trick sees a charming politician and glamourous new wife evoking a picture of marital bliss.
Top comedians and musicians will also be coming to the Royal and Derngate in the early part of next year.
Jason Manford brings his touring show First World Problems to the theatre on January 10 while Strictly Come Dancing’s Anton Du Beke brings From Ballroom to Broadway to the stage on January 16 and 17. He will appear alongside Summer Strallen.
The smash hit of the 2013 Edinbrugh Festival Eric and Little Ern looks back on one of TV’s greatest comedy double acts of Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise. The loving tribute to the pair comes on February 1.
Fresh from her smash hit TV show, Sarah Millican will be performing on February 25, 26 and May 15.
Russell Kane brings his stand up comedy show Smallness to the Royal and Derngate on March 21.
Britain’s Got Talent superstar Susan Boyle will be appearing in the town for the very first time. She will be performing a contemporary repertoire of iconic album tracks including I Dreamed a Dream and Wild Horses along with some songs never before performed live.
Madness front man Suggs will be coming to the Royal and Derngate on April 27. He will be talking about his career and life in his one-man show which promises to be both hilarious and moving.
