HE HAS been providing entertainment for three decades but Bobby Davro is ready to step on the stage once again.
The comedian will take on the role of Wishee Washee, Aladdin’s brother, at the Royal and Derngate, Northampton. The production of Aladdin starts Davro alongside Strictly Come Dancing’s Brian Fortuna and TV legend Basil Brush.
Bobby said: “This is my 27th pantomime and given that I have been working regularly for the past 30 years, I’ve almost done one a year. This is my third time of doing Aladdin.
“It is a great show, there’s lots of fun for the kids and plenty of cheeky jokes for the adults to keep them informed.
“I am sure I will be doing a few impressions in the show, probably of the likes of Harry Hill and Sir Bruce Forsyth.”
So while Bobby is no stranger to pantomime, what is the appeal of the Christmas tradition?
“It is that everyone comes along and there’s lovely amount of enthusiasm. Panto has always got such lovely costumes. It has got such a Christmas feeling around it,” he explained.
Bobby says it will also be performing at one of his favourites theatres when he visits Northampton.
“I love appearing at Northampton, the Derngate was one of my favourite venues when I perform so I’m looking forward to going back there.”
But he is looking to make a return to stage comedy once he has finished in pantomime.
Bobby said: “I always have January off but after that I would like to go out on tour.
“I’m sure people forget that I used to do the stand up tours, so it would be nice to get back to that.”
Aladdin will be on from tomorrow (Friday) to Sunday January 8. Tickets for the show can be booked by calling the box office on 01604 624811 or www.royalandderngate.co.uk.
