Willy Russells’ heartbreaking tale follows twin brothers separated at birth, who’s starkly different upbringings turbulently crash together.
Beginning with the innocence of childhood games between Mickey and Eddie, it culminates in an even more powerful ending that will linger long after the house lights go up.
Sean Jones, who I understand has a long association with this role and Mark Hutchinson as Eddie offer a masterclass in acting, superb! They are suported by an equally talented cast.
The writing sounds so harshly real and makes for one of the most powerfu productions in theatre.
A mention must go to the brilliant vocals of Tracy Spencer who took on the role of Mrs Johnstone for last night’s performance. Not to be missed.
Blood Brothers is performed at the Royal and Derngate in Northampton until Saturday. Tickets for the show can be booked by calling the box office in 01604 624811 or visiting www.royalandderngate.co.uk.
