ICONIC children’s book Black Beauty will be bought to life in an outdoor adaptation staged at Althorp House.
The story sees a well-known and cherished horse, enjoying an idyllic existence in the English countryside. Separated from beloved owner Flora, his life becomes one fraught with brutality and hardship as he is put to work as a London cab horse and, later, in a coal mine.
The original book by Anna Sewell has sold over 50 million copies worldwide but until now has never been adapted for the stage.
With the story told from the horse’s perspective, it has made it difficult to translate the story to the stage. However technological and design developments have enabled the producers to stage the children’s classic.
It will be performed at Althorp House on Friday and Saturday. Tickets are £18 for adults, £15 for concessions, £10 for children and £50 for families.
They can be bought by visiting www.blackbeautylive.com or call 0844 871 7604.
