A MUSICAL with Sesame Street puppets set on a typically American street would be the sort of thing that would appeal to children.
But this coming of age tale about a young lad named Princeton moving to Avenue Q and the new people he meets along the way definitely not suitable for little ones.
Away from the subject matter, there is a huge amount of technical skill among the actors lip synching for the puppets. Particular praise goes to Adam Pettigrew in the dual role of Princeton and closeted Rod and Rachel Jerram playing love interest Kate Monster and the saucily adult Lucy.
But this is a smart show which reflects the troubles of growing up in a poignany way. In summary, the puppets in Avenue Q will take you back to your childhood but adult-themed will appeal to the big kids the show is aimed at.
Avenue Q will be on until Saturday at Milton Keynes Theatre. Call 0844 871 7652 or visit www.miltonkeynestheatre.com
