MHDE A Christmas Carol

I HAVE not felt too festive this year until my visit to the Royal and Derngate to see A Christmas Carol.

This is a perfect excuse to get started with Christmas and feel a magical experience which leaves you walking out smiling.

The story, originally by Charles Dickens, is about a lonely, grumpy old man called Ebenezer Scrooge, who dislikes everything (including Christmas) only caring about money and any requests for charity is greeted with a Bah Humbug.

He is then visited by three ghosts (Christmas past, Christmas present and the future), who make him see there is more to life then being miserable and money and he changes his ways.

The special effects on screen were very good and the way the cast used the space and props were very clever. I do not want to spoil it for anyone going but I do not know how the last ghost worked, it was very very clever.

The cast was really good and put so much effort into every scene, most of the cast played various roles and were very talented and they appeared from wardrobes, windows the stage floor.

There was one actor in particular which stood out and sticks in my head which was Andrew Williams who plays various roles including Jacob Marley, Aladdin’s genie and a ghost.

There were a few scenes which I thought may of scared the children but they seemed to be having so much fun I did not hear anyone scared just plenty of giggles. There were plenty of laughs and the audience gave a standing ovation at the end and all the comments of people around were only positive.

To finish off the production, we had snow falling on our heads at the end which gave me a warm, happy feeling, especially with all the kids faces looking so happy.

I was very excited to see the show beforehand, however my boyfriend had not ever seen the films before. He was not so bothered about going, but during the interval I could see how much he was enjoying it and by the end was clapping along so I do not think you have to know the story to enjoy the show.

This was a great way to get into the Christmas spirit and I would recommend it to everyone.
