Not happy with waiting game

IN FEBRUARY 2009 a planning application was put into Rugby Borough Council (RBC) for the construction of an abattoir and meat processing plant on green field land right next to the Onley estate and three prisons.

A year on and the application still awaits the decision of the planning committee. How long does it take for a council to make a decision?

Is it fair on the communities who live near to the proposed development, whose lives are put on hold, unable to sell properties (as they become seriously devalued). They are constantly living with the fear of impeding gloom, while the council officers and the applicants discuss the application.

It was interesting to see that permission was recently refused for an agricultural building to be built for the welfare of new born goats in Willoughby, which had received very little objection.

As residents and citizens of this country with human rights, is it fair that we are kept in a state of stress while businesses and council officers communicate for so long over applications? Are our council's policies on planning dictated by the needs of large businesses above the interests of the local communities it serves?

Businesses come and go, leaving a blot on our countryside in the form of derelict buildings (when existing buildings could have been used).

Should we allow money to dictate council planning policy and destroy our countryside?
