A NEW cattery has opened in a village after the owners bought their house specifically to start the venture.
Christine and Dave Mackintosh bought their home at Cloverlea, Brington Road, Flore, four years ago with the intention of developing a new cattery on the site. They were given planning permission in January 2008 which allowed them to look after 20 cat
s, and the business finally opened earlier this month.
The pair are very enthusiastic about all matters feline. Mrs Mackintosh said: “We have had pedigree cats of our own for the last 12 years and noticed a niche in the market in the area we live.”
It was a problem finding a suitable place for their own cats which led them to creating Cloverlea Cattery.
“We have two Persian cats at the moment and it was always a challenge to find a cattery which was of high enough quality where we felt comfortable enough to leave them.”
Mr Mackinstosh is hoping the surroundings of Brington Road will give people the confidence to leave their cats.
He said: “Where we are on the Brington Road there is nothing around, we have no neighbours and there is a lot of wildlife.
“It is a tranquil setting, very peaceful.
“We hope this will make people feel confident to leave their cats.”
The couple have also spent time making sure the cattery is up to the standards of the Feline Advisory Bureau and completing the recommended training from the same body.
Mrs Mackintosh said: “We are very excited about our new venture and would like to have all our units full for Christmas.”
She added she is currently studying for a diploma in feline studies to increase her knowledge.
Mr Mackintosh is encouraging anyone to visit the cattery and see it for themselves.
He said: “Anyone who is passing in the area, come and ring the bell and you can have a look around.”
