DAVENTRY'S new sector inspector has made her first arrests since starting the job last month.
Inspector Julia Potts arrested two suspected robbers in the town centre on Sunday, June 28, just 15 minutes after the incident was reported.
She said: “I am determined that people in Daventry and the surrounding villages see a first class police service and hope to lead by example.
“We received a report of a robbery on Sunday evening and within 15 minutes had deployed members of the Safer Community Teams as well as response officers to the victim and had arrested the two alleged offenders.”
Two boys, aged 15 and 17 have since been charged in relation to the incident and appeared in Northampton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday last week where they were released on bail.
Insp Potts added: “I hope our swift response to this incident shows people in Daventry and the wider area that we do take their concerns seriously and are committed to responding to crimes.
“Compared with other parts of the county we have a relatively small number of crimes in Daventry, particularly violent crimes such as robbery, for which we have seen a 62.5 per cent drop in the last three months compared with the same period last year.
“However, having a lower crime rate does not mean we do not take crime seriously, and I hope our response on Sunday shows people that we have the commitment and resources to appropriately deal with any crime across the district at any time.”
